Goes on sale this year.
The Land Rover Discovery Sport is currently being showcased at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. Positioned as the replacement to the ageing Freelander 2, the Discovery Sport is based on a new platform, and goes on sale in the U.S. and India this year.
Powering the Disco Sport in the U.S. will be a 2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 240 hp. It comes mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel drive system.
As for its off-roading capabilities, the vehicle can wade water up to 600 mm deep, sits 212 mm above the surface (ground clearance), and has approach, departure, and breakover angles of 25, 31, and 21 (20 in case of the 5+2 version) degrees respectively.
On the inside, it comes with a 5+2 seating capacity, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, and an autonomous braking system. The Discovery Sport goes on sale this year with prices starting from $37,995 before tax.
Being the first member of the new Discovery family, it benefits from the use of aluminium and ultra high strength steel, both of which help keep the SUV's weight down. It measures 4,599 mm in length, 2,173 mm in width, and 1,724 mm in height.
