Deliveries start next year.
Apart from the locally produced Range Rover Evoque,Land Rover is also showcasing the new Discovery Sport at the Guangzhou Auto Show 2014. Reports say that the Freelander-replacement is going to retail at 558,000 yuan (Rs 56.6 lakhs) for the SE version and 618,000 yuan (Rs 62.7 lakhs) for the HSE Luxury variant in China.
Being the first member of the new Discovery family, a lot is expected from the Discovery Sport. It can seat seven (in an optional 2+3+2 configuration), can wade water up to 600 mm deep, and looks more stunning than the aging Discovery.
There's a lot of Range Rover goodness in the design, but with the distinct DRLs and a wraparound-ish windscreen, the Discovery Sport will remain distinguishable.
It's a typical premium Land Rover (almost Range Rover like) affair on the inside with a neatly designed and spacious cabin. And the Disco Sport isn't low on tech either, with safety features like autonomous braking etc. being offered on the global model. JLR's InControl apps can connect the user's smartphone and let occupants use the vehicle's 8-inch infotainment system to obtain navigation, news, and even anti-theft features.
The vehicle will be offered in China with a 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, and a Haldex four-wheel drive system is responsible for sending power to all four wheels in the Disco Sport.
