Expected to arrive in late 2018.
According to the Times of India, the next product from Jeep's volume lineup will be the Renegade compact SUV which will start around a staggeringly low INR 10 Lakhs.
Like the Compass, Jeep will have to heavily localise the Renegade's production in India and add steel wheels and a stripped-out interior to arrive at the price point, if it intends to make money on every unit sold.
Currently, the main production hubs for both LHD and RHD models is FCA plant's in Melfi, Italy. Other places of production include Pernambuco, Brazil and Guangzhou, China for specific markets. Soon, FCA-Tata's Ranjangaon plant will be added to the list of production hubs, from where RHD units could even be exported along with the Compass.
Renegade test mules have been spied testing in India on a regular basis featuring a black interior with silver accents, leather steering wheel, climate control system, UConnect touchscreen system, 3.5-inch TFT instrument panel, rear parking sensors and cruise control.
The Renegade is a strict 5-seater with a boot capacity of 354L, and competes in the upper B-Segment. It measures 4236 mm long, 1805 mm wide and 1667 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2570 mm.
The Renegade could source the engine lineup from Compass, which has the locally assembled 2.0L Multijet turbodiesel and 1.4L T-Jet turbopetrol, with reports stating that both units will be detuned. A 4WD Active Drive system could be offered in top-end 'Limited' variants.
