The ultra exclusive Jaguar XKR-S GT which was unveiled at the New York Auto Show a couple of weeks ago was originally limited to 30 units but now Jaguar says it could make 50 examples if the demand justifies it.
The reinvigorated British car maker was looking to sell the initially planned 30 units in the American and Canadian markets. However customers from the European market have also shown a lot of interest in the most extreme road going version of the XK.
According to Jaguar's brand director Adrian Hallmark, there is enough capacity to build an additional 20 cars if need be. He stated, "It is possible the production run will reach 50. The initial cap was set to define the business case but, thankfully, there is room for more."
The additional produce would be mostly be sold in Europe.
The Jaguar XKR-S GT is based on the regular XKR-S and makes do with the same 542 bhp, supercharged 5.0 litre V8 engine. However the GT gets aerodynamic components to increase the aerodynamic downforce and lots of carbon fiber parts to shave off weight.
As a result, you get a mean-looking super car which emerges as the most serious road going version of the XK. Jaguar say that the XKR-S GT could lap the Nurburgring in 7 mins 40 seconds, standing at par with the Ferrari 458 Italia.
