India-bound 2017 Honda CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC details surface before its Thai launch

The first CR-V to offer the option of 7-seats.

Honda Thailand conducted its national media drive of the India-bound 2017 Honda CR-V 1.6 diesel in the country. From the drive, Headlight Mag has posted details and their impression of the Thai-made Honda CR-V diesel, ahead of its launch on March 29.

Compared to the outgoing model, the new CR-V is 5 mm longer, 35 mm wider, 39 mm higher and has a 40 mm longer wheelbase, measuring 4,587 mm long, 1,855 mm wide, 1,689 mm high and a wheelbase of 2,660 mm. Depending on the variant (2WD or AWD), the ground clearance ranges between 198-208 mm. The lower 2WD models ride on 17-inch alloy wheels, while the AWD models get 18-inch dual tone rims. Other exterior features include full LED headlights, LED tail lamps, LED foglights, and a shark fin antenna.

The Thai-spec CR-V comes with an all black interior contrasted by silver and wood trims. It gets a conventional knob for volume control and an interesting Honda NSX-inspired buttons for the automatic transmission. The instrument display is a TFT unit similar to the Honda Civic, and the centre console houses a 7-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Both driver and front passenger have power adjustable seats, while the second-row seats can be adjusted for reach and recline. It is also the first CR-V to offer the option of third-row seating, which is not even an option in the model sold globally.

For Thailand, the Honda CR-V can be had with a 2.4L i-VTEC N/A petrol engine and a new 1.6L i-DTEC turbodiesel engine. Headlight Mag got to experience the diesel variant, which produces 160 hp at 4,000 rpm and 350 Nm at 2,000 rpm. They claim that the diesel engine is quiet at idling and, on the move, torque delivery is linear across the power band, a characteristic Honda diesel trait. It is paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox as standard. It is claimed to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 10.3 seconds.

Expect Honda to introduce to new CR-V in India this year with good localisation.
