Hyundai Santro starting price hiked by INR 25,000

As reported earlier last month, Hyundai has silently updated the Santro line-up by replacing the earlier base D-Lite and Era trims with a new single Era Executive trim. The new Era Executive trim sits higher than the earlier base D-Lite trim and comes with a sticker price of INR 4.15 lakh*.

The Hyundai Santro in the D-lite trim was priced at 3.90 lakh*. This means that the entry-price has gone up by INR 25,000 now. The new Era Executive trim, however, is positioned below the (now discontinued) Era trim which was priced at INR 4.25 lakh. The other equipment lines remain untouched of the price revision.

Apart from pricing, the new Era Executive trim sits in the middle of discontinued trims in terms of features. It comes with basics like front power windows, a manual air-conditioner and body-coloured bumpers, which were absent on the D-lite trim. On the other hand, it lacks the Era's front power outlet and rear AC vents features. What's surprising to note is that even though it comes with standard driver’s side airbag, ABS, EBD and power steering, it misses out on the now-mandatory rear parking sensors and a speed alert system.

The company has also introduced some minor feature additions in Santro's mid-spec variants. The Santro Sportz-AMT now has an updated safety kit which has been carried over from the Asta trim. This includes a rear parking camera, passenger-side airbag and front seatbelt pre-tensioners, load limiters and more. The Magna-MT configurations now come equipped with 2-DIN audio system and multi-function steering wheel, which was earlier found only on Magna AMT trim.

Apart from the rejigged features, the car remains untouched and comes with the same 1.1-litre motor which delivers 69 PS on petrol and 59 PS while running on the CNG. 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual are the transmission choices.
