The Husqvarna Svartpilen 701 is reportedly under development, according to ‘emission documents’ filed by the company with the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The motorcycle is likely to debut at the EICMA 2018, while launch will take place in 2019.
Husqvarna showcased the Svartpilen 701 concept flat tracker at the EICMA 2017 in Milan, Italy. The Husqvarna Svartpilen 701 is the neo-classic scrambler version of the Vitpilen 701 café racer. The motorcycle shares the same chassis and engine platform with the KTM 690 Duke. Husqvarna has three road-legal bikes its portfolio - Vitpilen 401, Svartpilen 401 and the Vitpilen 701, and it was evident for the Swedish brand to bring the Svartpilen 701.
Powering the Husqvarna Svartpilen 701 will be the same 692.7 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-valve engine that powers the Vitpilen 701. On the latter, the fuel-injected motor is capable of pumping out a maximum power of 74 bhp at 8,500 rpm while generating a peak torque of 72 Nm at 6,750 rpm. A 6-speed transmission transfers drive to the wheels, while an assist and slipper clutch is standard.
Apart from the engine and chassis, the Husqvarna Svartpilen 701 will also share the bodywork, electricals, suspension, brakes and wheels with the Vitpilen 701. Suspension setup will comprise of 43 mm WP inverted front forks and an adjustable linkage-type rear mono-shock from WP. Braking force will come from a 320 mm front disc with Brembo radial callipers, along with a 240 mm rear disc, while switchable dual-channel Bosch ABS will be standard.
The Husqvarna Svartpilen 701 is likely to feature a neo-classic design language, which will be similar to the Vitpilen 701. The motorcycle will feature a teardrop fuel tank and a sleek tail section with split-seats. The bike is likely to share the circular LED headlamp and all-digital speedometer with the Vitpilen 701. Changes will come in the form of a raised handlebar with upright riding position and slightly forward-set foot pegs.
While the Husqvarna Svartpilen 701 is likely to go on sale globally in 2019, Bajaj-KTM is preparing the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 and the Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 for an Indian production and maket launch next year.
