The new kid on the block Honda Mobilio overtook its primary rival, the Maruti Ertiga, in sales last month. Honda sold 5,530 units of the Mobilio whereas Maruti sold 5,491 units of the Eritga, Grand Vitara and Gypsy combined.
For Honda Cars India, the Mobilio accounted for nearly 33 percent of its overall domestic sales. In fact, the car maker was forced to halt production of its top-selling model, the City, and relocate its production to the Tapukara plant in Rajasthan. Production of the new City at Tapukara will commence from the first week of September.
Last month, the company sold 16,758 units in the domestic market, posting an 88 percent growth compared to August 2013. The Amaze, of all cars, sold the highest last month at 9,198 units, followed by the Mobilio.

Maruti on its part, launched a special edition on the Ertiga to keep the momentum flowing. The Ertiga Anniversary Edition as it is called, celebrates sales of 150,000 units of the MPV in the domestic market.
