We are coming to you live from the 2013 Indonesian International Motor Show which has just kick-started today. And the Honda Mobilio Prototype has just been unveiled!
The Mobilio is the third car on the Brio's platform, the second being the Amaze (Brio sedan/Brio Amaze) which was unveiled last year. The Mobilio was jointly developed by Honda’s R&D Asia Pacific team in Thailand and PT Honda Prospect’s R&D team in Indonesia. The Mobilio is 4.4 meters in length, has a 185mm ground clearance and a wheelbase of 2,650mm.
For the Indonesian market, Honda will be offering a 1.5-liter i-VTEC petrol engine with a manual and a CVT automatic transmission. Tomoki Uchida, President Director of P.T. Honda Prospect Motor, has already confirmed that the production of the Mobilio will commence in their new plant in Karawang, West Java, in early 2014. It would be the first product to roll out of this plant.
The Mobilio MPV will be making its Indian debut sometime in 2014. Along with a petrol engine, Honda Cars India will sell the Mobilio with the 1.5-liter Honda EarthDreams diesel as well. We would expect the MPV to be shown at the 2014 Auto Expo in February.
In both, the Indian and the Indonesian markets, the Mobilio targets the Maruti-Suzuki Ertiga. It has a few more rivals in Indonesia's MPV friendly market such as the Toyota Avanza and the Daihatsu Xenia though.
The Mobilio has been priced from 150-180 million Indonesian Rupiah (INR 8.41 lakhs to INR 10.09 lakhs).
