Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India will launch a new commuter bike in the middle of this year, according to a report on ZigWheels. The new product will be Honda's third offering in the 'Dream' series (which currently has the Dream Neo and Dream Yuga).

In order to achieve leadership position, Honda has realized that it needs more number of commuter (read mass market) products, and bikes such as the new Dream motorcycle should get the Japanese brand the much needed volumes.

The new motorcycle will likely get the 'Dream' moniker.

Power for the new motorcycle is likely to be sourced from the same 109 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine powering the Dream Yuga and Neo. Even the power and torque figures should be similar to the 8.25 bhp at 7,500 rpm and 8.63 Nm at 5,500 rpm.

Price wise, the new motorcycle should be priced in the region of INR 40,000-50,000 (ex-Showroom, New Delhi) depending on its positioning within the Dream series.

By 2015-16, Honda India's two-wheeler production capacity would have increased to 58 lakh units, thanks to the upcoming plant in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, which alone will have an annual capacity of 12 lakh units. To utilize full capacity, it makes sense for Honda to focus more on the mass-market derivatives.
