First model under the Genesis sub-brand.
Hyundai has unveiled the first model to be sold under the Genesis luxury brand today, dubbed as the Genesis G90 (Genesis EQ900 for Korea). The EQ900 will launch in Korea in early-2016, while the international-spec Genesis G90 will be introduced in other markets from the second half of the same year.
The exterior of the Genesis G90 was previewed by official sketches released on November 13, revealing an exterior design that borrows influence from the Hyundai Vision G Coupe. Characteristic to Genesis products are the large hexagonal grille, angular window line, LED taillamps and bold chrome accents.
It measures 5,205 mm long, 1,915 mm wide, 1,495 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 3,160 mm, while a rumored long wheelbase version is 5,495 mm long with a wheelbase 3,450 mm. Hyundai states that 51.7% of the G90’s structure is made of advanced high-strength steel, which is 10 percent lighter and twice as strong as normal steel.
Inside, the Genesis G90 has a chocolate brown leather upholstery, plenty of wood trim, and a rear-seat entertainment system with 9.2-inch tablets. Other features include a Lexicon sound system, 12.3-inch infotainment screen, wireless charging, and a three-zone “smart” climate control system. The center console flows all the way to the back where it separates the two electrically-operated seats and houses numerous other functions.
Engine options include a 3.8-liter Lambda V6 GDi with 334 hp and 40.3 kgm, 3.3 Lambda V6 Turbo GDi with 370 hp and 52 kgm, and a range-topping 5.0 Tau V8 GDi with 425 hp and 53 kgm. All variants are paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and get the HTRAC AWD system as standard.
