BMW Motorrad, the two-wheeler division of BMW Group, has unveiled a new variant of its middleweight adventure tourer, F 850 GS. Christened as the F 850 GS Adventure, the motorcycle packs increased off-road competence and outstanding long-distance qualities over the already potent F 850 GS.

Power comes from the 853cc liquid-cooled, four-stroke, in-line two-cylinder engine with four valves per cylinder, two overhead camshafts and dry sump lubrication. The motor is tuned to deliver the same performance numbers as the standard F850 GS. Thus, the Adventure badge model continues to draw 95 hp of maximum power at 8,250 rpm and 92 Nm of peak torque at 6,250 rpm.
To achieve an appealing exhaust note, the engine’s crankshaft comes with a 90-degree crankpin offset and 270/450 degree ignition spacing. Power is transferred to the rear wheel via a six-speed gearbox.
"Road" and "Rain" riding modes, along with BMW Motorrad ABS and ASC (automatic stability control) are available as standard. The motorcycle can be fitted with optional equipment, such as “Pro” riding modes and in turn the additional “Dynamic”, “Enduro” and “Enduro Pro” riding modes as well as the DTC dynamic traction control and banking capable (cornering) ABS Pro.
The bridge frame of the new F 850 GS Adventure integrates the 2-cylinder in-line engine as a co-supporting element. The fuel tank has been placed in the classic position between the seat and the steering head, for optimised packaging and an improved centre of gravity. With the 23-litre fuel tank, the F 850 GS is claimed to permit a range of 550 kilometres. The range can be further extended in combination with the model’s low fuel consumption.
The F 850 GS Adventure comes with a larger windshield (two stages adjustable), hand protectors, wide enduro footrests, adjustable shift and foot brake levers as well as engine protection bars and a stainless steel luggage as standard. In addition to the basic version, the new F 850 GS Adventure is available in Exclusive and Rallye style variations. Tubeless wire-spoke wheels have been retained from the standard F 850 GS.
Optional accessories include different seat heights, the case holder for the aluminium cases and trim panels, the new full LED headlight as well as the LED additional headlight, and Connectivity equipment with 6.5-inch full-colour TFT display or the intelligent emergency eCall.
