Team-BHP reports that dealer training for the production-spec Renault Kwid Climber has commenced, suggesting that a launch is imminent. The Climber will likely be sold as a special edition, although we're not sure whether it will be built in limited numbers.
The Climber was unveiled as a concept at the Auto Expo 2016, featuring a visual makeover that further strengthened the tough looks of the Kwid. It featured a faux skid plate, thicker front grille, protective plastic cladding around the headlamps and taillights, thicker body cladding around the wheel arches and profile, and larger 15-inch alloys shod with 205/65 competition tires, electric blue highlights and a tweaked rear bumper. Only some of these features are expected to cascade into the showroom version, as represented in our rendering.
Inside, the Kwid Climber could feature orange accents on the center console, dashboard, steering wheel and door cards, as well as exclusive seat covers. The feature list is likely to be borrowed from Kwid RXT, which gets a 7 inch MEDIANAV touchscreen display, power steering, manual climate control and optional driver's airbag.

The Kwid Climber will be based on the Kwid 1L variant, which packs a 1.0-litre SCe three-cylinder petrol engine that develops 68 PS at 5,500 rpm and 91 Nm of torque at 4,250 rpm. Power goes to the wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox or an AMT.
