On the eve of February month, the diesel variant of the Chevrolet Cruze was announced in Korea. The car in Korea is rebadged Daewoo and is dubbed the Lacetti Premiere.
Indians can expect this car by the end of this year in India, but this is not going to be an upgraded Optra by any means. The Chevrolet Cruze will take on the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry instead, signifying it will be a CKD put together with very little of its parts sourced locally.

The high pressure CRDI system was developed by Bosch
The diesel engine generates 150 ps at 4,000 rpm and maximum torque of 32.6 kg.m (326 Nm) at 2,000 rpm (so much torque at that rpm should make this car and city traffic go hand in hand)
accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 9.2 seconds and to a top speed of 208 km/h
19 km/l with a five-speed manual transmission and 15 km/l with a six-speed automatic transmission
Equipped with a diesel particulate filter system (DPF) and improved Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), it meets Euro IV emission regulations

Press Release-
Seoul - GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GM Daewoo) today launched the diesel version of the Lacetti Premiere compact sedan. The new model features GM Daewoo’s 2.0-liter Euro IV-compliant VCDi (Variable Geometry Turbo Charger Common Rail Diesel Injection) engine.
“Since its launch last November, the Lacetti Premiere has impressed critics and consumers alike,” said Rick LaBelle, GM Daewoo Vice President of Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing. “Now local car buyers have one more reason to purchase our acclaimed global compact, the powerful yet fuel-efficient Lacetti Premiere Diesel.”
The diesel engine generates 150 ps at 4,000 rpm and maximum torque of 32.6 kg.m at 2,000 rpm. Its electronically controlled turbocharger with intercooler offers fast response and precise power control, enabling the Lacetti Premiere Diesel to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in just 9.2 seconds and to a top speed of 208 km/h.
The powerful Lacetti Premiere Diesel achieves fuel efficiency of 19 km/l with a five-speed manual transmission and 15 km/l with a six-speed automatic transmission. The latter is unique in the compact segment in Korea. The VCDi engine mated with the advanced six-speed automatic transmission provides better performance and smoother upshifts and downshifts than four-speed automatic transmissions found in competitors. The high-pressure common rail system from Bosch delivers outstanding injection performance and quality.
The Lacetti Premiere Diesel is eco-friendly. Equipped with a maintenance-free diesel particulate filter system (DPF) and improved Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), it fully meets the most stringent Euro IV emission regulations, emitting 50 percent less nitrogen oxide and particulate matter than comparable Euro III-compliant diesel vehicles.
A series of advanced elements connecting the engine and the transmission, such as a Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF) and balance shaft module have greatly reduced engine noise and vibration, making the Lacetti Premiere Diesel surprisingly quiet.
Premium convenience and comfort features offered in the gasoline versions of the Lacetti Premiere, including remote keyless entry, push button ignition, Graphic Information Display (GID), and three-level heated driver and front passenger seats, are available in the Lacetti Premiere Diesel as well.
The Lacetti Premiere Diesel comes in three trim levels with a manual transmission. The SE is priced at KRW 15.1 million, the SX at KRW 16.3 million and the CDX at KRW 17.1 million.
