Chevrolet Cruze SS body kit sizzles in Singapore

chevrolet cruze ss singaporeThe Chevrolet Cruze SS body kit adds aggression and toughness to the car

GM in Singapore is offering a “Cruze SS” bodykit for Chevrolet Cruze customers. The inspiration for the body kit has clearly come from the Bumblebee character played by the Chevrolet Camaro in the mega hit Transformers movie.

The kit consisting of a front, rear and side skirts, a rear spoiler, 17 inch alloy wheels wrapped with Falken tyres, and illuminated skuff plates, adds oomph to the already muscular styling.

The Chevrolet Cruze SS kit is priced at SG$4,980 which translates to around 1.63 lakh rupees.

If you think this pack looks uncool, then check out the Irmscher body kit for the Chevrolet Cruze.

Spied – Chevrolet testing Electric Cruze in USA

Chevrolet_Cruze_EV_Electric - 1The e-Cruze will come with GM’s Voltec technology. Will it make it to India too?

How many of you saw this one coming?

If the Chevrolet Cruze electric comes to India, will it have the GM’s ‘Voltec’ technology used on this test mule or REVA’s powertrains?

The latter is also a possibility since Chetan Maini, REVA’s Chief technology officer during the recently concluded Auto Expo, told IAB that vehicle size isn’t a concern to his company’s flexible electric powertrains.

The report says the Chevrolet e-Cruze with Voltec powertrain will be assembled in Australia and sold under the Holden banner in the next two years. The mule caught here is the Daewoo Lacetti Premiere, which is essentially the Chevrolet Cruze with a different radiator grille.

Rumors around town suggest GM could also launch the Volt in India in the coming years. Its too early in the game to predict its price or the strategy GM will deploy for its electric/hybrid vehicles and platforms but it is going to be very interesting.

Will the e-Cruze cruise into Indian soil in 2011? It definitely is a possibility.

Rendering – Chevrolet Cruze hatchback

Chevrolet_Cruze_hatchbackDrawings of the upcoming Chevrolet Cruze hatchback convey one thing for certain – it is going to be a looker!

Details of the hatchback Chevrolet_Cruze_hatchback_1are not in the public domain, but it is safe to expect the same level of equipment and engines. The Cruze hatchback isn’t for the Indian customer who isn’t willing to pay a premium for something without a boot.

The SRV hatchback, which was based on the Optra, was not exactly a hit. The Honda Jazz is a case in point, with its hefty price tag, people moved towards the City sedan.

The timeline of Chevrolet Cruze variants has already begun. The hatchback and station wagon are expected in the next two years.

Spied – Chevrolet Cruze Station wagon

Chevrolet Cruze Station WagonThe practicality of the Cruze SW is more appreciated by the European buyer

Edit – We’ve just learned that this image is fake and is picked up from another website and photoshopped. We’ll try and be more careful next time when someone sends something in.

Our regular reader Sunil Sharma from Ranchi sent us this image today morning. One look at it and you can’t mistake it for anything else.

The station wagon variant of the Chevrolet Cruze might not make it to India, but the European and probably American customer prefers such a type of model. He sees more practicality in a wagon. He is more likely to go camping with his family on the weekend where he needs a vehicle that can carry all the gear. A large family will go in for a station wagon since it meets multiple demands and suits almost every kind of driver.

Chevrolet is also said to be working a hatchback version of the Cruze (just like how SRV was derived from the Optra) which would also be available only to the European buyer.

1,100 Chevrolet Cruzes booked before the launch; Beat to follow

Cruizing along the highway that consists of the Corolla, Civic and Laura

At the Paris Motor show in October 2008, GM revealed a compact sedan (in the American sense) named Cruze. A year later, the Cruze was launched here in India. Surprisingly, GM India chose to sail the diesel version before the petrol and only the manual version was decided to go with it. With just one engine option, hopes were not very high and the trusted Civic and Corolla, formed a ruthless opposition.

With Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla Altis & Honda Civic peeping from the top in the upper mid-size segment of the Indian automobile market, the Chevrolet Cruze has rattled the ladder with 1,100 pre-launch bookings giving rise to a possibility of a scary fall to those on the higher levels. Taking full advantage of the customers in the festive mood, the Cruze missile it seems, has hit the target.

Cruze missile deployed; Exclusive images from the launch floor

Chevrolet Cruze PresentationSolid as rock, the Chevrolet Cruze might cause rock slides in the D-Segment territory

The Chevrolet Cruze coverage on Indian Autos Blog has been very comprehensive. We have left no stone unturned in the Cruze chapter. Perhaps only a test drive report is missing from the picture, which will also be brought to you later this month.

At its launch event in Mumbai today, Vice President of GM India, Mr. P Balendran, who stressed that the Cruze is an very important vehicle for GM not only in India but all over the world left a few people in disbelief when he announced the price of the car.

Priced at 10.99 lakhs for the LT and 12.45 lakhs for the LTZ model, cars like the the Civic, Altis, Jetta and the Laura have no where to hide. Considering its the best seller in China and is fast climbing the sales chart the world over, the Indian consumer will also put India on that list, I think.

The launch function began with a small A/V presentation of the Cruze. Its features were highlighted and teaser videos were aired followed by a group of girls playing on their violins.

Siddhant Ahuja – How I liked the Chevrolet Cruze

Chevrolet Cruze Shaun Malambo Siddhant AhujaChevrolet Cruze standing pretty in a South African dealership.

Our regular reader Siddhanth Ahuja has driven the Chevrolet Cruze and he’s given us an exclusive look into the product. The images accompanying the text is brought to you by our South African reader Shaun Malambo, who previously spoke about his brush with the newest Chevy.

Siddhant -

This is the most awaited Chevy to hit the Indian shores. GM is going strong in India with sales touching the peak, contrary to what is happening back in the states. GM India aspires to hold a 10% market share by 2012. With products like the Cruze, it surely can!

Here is my review of the Chevrolet Cruze.

Inside out -

The Cruze is one good looking car-there is no denying that fact. One look at it and you’d be floored. It looks striking from the front-sharp and angular headlamps with a huge split grill,a new chevy logo,a line that runs at the centre of the bonnet all make it look aggressive.

Shaun Malambo – My impressions on the Chevrolet Cruze

chevrolet_cruze_paris_1

Our regular reader Shaun Malambo, who lives in Cape Town, South Africa, had a chance to experience the upcoming Chevrolet Cruze. As you know, IAB has been keenly following the Cruze making this our 27th post on the car.

The Cruze was launched in South Africa on the 24th of this month and due to personal reasons, Shaun could not attend the launch and cover it for us. As a result he had gone a Chevy dealership close to his house and came away impressed.

Shaun Malambo -

The Chevrolet Cruze was launched on the 24 September 2009 in South Africa and has visual appeal. I couldn’t attend the launch but went over to my local dealership to have a look at what all the buzz was about since I’m following Indian Autos blog and being a Chevrolet Aveo & Spark fan.

The car oozes sophistication and grandness which is quite uncommon for a ‘budget priced’ car. The Cruze is a compact and sleek car, it looks solid and the linear lines on the exterior makes the Cruze sexy without being over the top – it is indeed a thing of beauty in the eyes of the beholder. It is well built, of a high quality and in a league of its own. It can’t really be compared to any other luxury car I encountered. You need to see it to believe it!

Holden to develop performance vehicle using Cruze architecture

first-production-cruze

The upcoming Chevrolet Cruze’s Delta 2 platform already underpins the Chevrolet Volt and the new Vauxhall/Opel Astra. GM is not putting it to rest anytime soon as the number of vehicles on the field with the Cruze’s architecture is about to increase.

Australian car maker Holden’s partner Holden Special Vehicles (HSV), is embarking on a truly exciting journey. They are going to develop a performance car using the Cruze’s platform. The specifications have not been frozen and design also is in the early stages.

To tap the most out of the structure, HSV’s engineers are currently studying every aspect of the Cruze car to estimate how much of punishment it can handle, a critical stage in a performance car’s life .

Only after the study will the design of the car be determined – whether the end result will be a sedan or a hatchback.

HSV Managing director Phil Harding -

We’re looking at it from a business case, don’t ask me when or what engine, but I know what it can look like because our styling department is working on it
