The only car in the segment to not offer a diesel option, yet.
Autocar India reports that select Jaguar dealerships in India will now start accepting bookings for the Jaguar XE 20d diesel variant, ahead of its launch mid-month. The minimum deposit is INR 2 Lakhs.
The Jaguar XE is the only car in the segment to not offer a diesel option, yet, despite diesel variants being more popular in demand. Jaguar did confirm that an XE diesel variant was coming, but it's taken well over a year since its launch at Auto Expo 2016 to finally arrive in showrooms. The Jaguar XE 20d will compete with the Mercedes C Class (C220d), BMW 3 Series (320d) and Audi A4 (35 TDI). Prices are expected to range between INR 42 Lakhs -INR 48 Lakhs (ex-showroom).
Under the hood is Jaguar's 2.0L Ingenium 4-cyl turbo diesel engine that produces 180 PS and 430 Nm of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. It can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 7.8 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 228 km/h. In the UK cycle, the Jaguar XE diesel is capable of a fuel mileage of 23.82 km/L, so expect it to be lesser in the Indian cycle.
So far, the Jaguar XE was only available with petrol engines, which includes a 2.0L turbocharged unit that produces 147 kW (197 hp) in the XE Pure and Prestinge, and 177kW (240 hp) in the XE Portfolio. Like the diesel, the only transmission option is an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox with paddle shifters.
