The BMW 4 Series Coupe is essentially the next generation 3 Series Coupe.
The strategy behind the new 4 Series nomenclature is to move the mid size coupe further upmarket. Apart from that, the 4 Series Coupe is basically the 3 Series with a swooping roofline and missing rear doors.
To boot with, the new Coupe is wider and has longer wheelbase than the outgoing 3 Series Coupe. The new BMW design launguage which debuted in the 3 Series is carried forward. The headlamps that merge into sleek chrome outlined kidney grill characterizes the front fascia.
The front bumper, which looks watered down when compared to that of the 4 Series Coupe Concept, has interesting contours. The car has a lower and wider stance which is easily recognizable. The unique design feature of the 4 Series Coupe is the air intake located behind the front wheel arches. BMW says the intakes reduce drag.
The rear also has obvious cues from the 3 Series but the taillamps are slightly different. The rear bumper is new and the dual exhaust pipes are placed wider apart.
The interior adopts exactly the same design and layout of the 3 Series. The differences come from the color theme and materials used. Customers can specify the interiors in three equipment lines - Sport line, Modern line and Luxury Line. In addition the M Sport package is also available.

Apart from having traditional BMW qualities like a precise steering, taut chassis and a 50:50 weight distribution ratio, the BMW 4 Series has another feather in its hat. The car has a lower ride height than the 3 Series Coupe and that lowers its centre of gravity below 500mm, making it the model with the lowest COG in the current BMW lineup! That would enable the 4 Series Coupe to be the sportiest Beemer.
The top of the line 435i Coupe is powered by an inline six cylinder petrol engine while the 428i Coupe and the 420d Coupe are powered by four cylinder petrol and diesel engines respectively. All the engines employ the TwinPower turbo technology and the power outputs range from 184hp to 306hp.
A six speed manual gearbox comes as standard across the range and an eight speed Sports automatic gearbox with paddle shifters is available as an option. Power goes to the rear wheels but the petrol variants can be specified with xDrive all wheel drive system.
The 4 Series Coupe incorporates "EfficientDynamics" equipment like Auto Start Stop function, Optimum Shift Indicator, Brake Energy Regeneration, on-demand operation of ancillary units, ECO PRO mode, coasting mode and Proactive Driving Assistant.
"ConnectedDrive" features on offer are Navigation System Professional, BMW Head-Up Display, Driving Assistant Plus, LED High Beam Assistant, Active Protection with Attentiveness Assistant and Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function.
