Bajaj Auto will reportedly introduce the FI variant of its 200 cc naked roadster, the Pulsar NS200, by Diwali this year. The news comes from motoring portal, MaxAbout, which claim that the Pune-based two-wheeler brand will update its existing fuel injected engine on the RS200 to comply with the upcoming BS-VI emission norms and pass the same motor to the NS200.

Regular readers would know that Bajaj Auto already offers the fuel-injected variant of the Pulsar NS200 in the international market, while the India-spec model only comes with carburettor setup. A video from February this year revealed the new, neon stickers equipped Pulsar NS200 FI from the international markets. The motorcycles were seen with neon blue, yellow and red stickers on various body panels and on the alloy rims.
In terms of mechanical specifications, the international-spec, fuel-injected Bajaj Pulsar NS200 offers 24.13 hp of maximum power at 9,750 rpm and 18.6 Nm of peak torque at 8,000 rpm from its 199.5 cc SOHC 4-Valve, Liquid Cooled, Triple Spark engine. The India-spec carburettor version, on the other hand, makes 23.17 hp of max power and 18.3 Nm of peak torque. Both fuel-injected and carburettor models employ a six-speed gearbox.
Given the launch timeline by MaxAbout, we expect the Bajaj Pulsar NS200 Fi to arrive with BS-VI compliant motor ahead of the April 2020 deadline. Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, has revealed in an interview last year that the company would use the new emission norms upgrade as an opportunity to introduce its motorcycle range in a new avatar. Thus, apart from the updated engine, we may also see new styling cues and features on the Pulsar NS200 FI.
The revised styling will most likely arrive in slightly tweaked design, updated graphics and new paint scheme. The equipment update may witness the introduction of features like full LED headlight and a fully digital instrument console. The current model, for reference, comes with an analogue tachometer. It may be noted here that smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth seems to be a new fad in the world of mainstream motorcycles. We recently saw the Bluetooth tech on Hero MotoCorp’s 200 cc trio – Xpulse 200, XPulse 200T and the Xtreme 200S. Thus, it will not be too wrong to expect the same feature on the updated Bajaj Pulsar NS200.

The new Bajaj PuslPulsar NS200 will most likely carry a higher price tag than the current model, which retails at INR 1,12,557 (ex-showroom Delhi).
