When Audi refreshed its performance offering, the R8, a new top end model was also added to the lineup. It is called the Audi R8 V10 Plus. While Audi in India updated the R8 lineup very recently, the V10 Plus model was not launched.
We now receive confirmation from Audi's PR that the German manufacturer is planning to launch the R8 V10 Plus in India. The launch date for April 4 has been fixed as well. Audi is also considering launching the Plus variant at the Buddh International Circuit, an ideal home for the everyday supercar.
To give you a brief of the R8 V10 Plus, it is powered by the same 5.2-liter Lamborghini sourced V10 engine. This engine is not unfamiliar to us, having seen and experienced it in the R8 Spyder and the R8 V10 Coupe.
However, in the 'Plus' variant, it is tuned to produce 550 bhp of power instead of 525 bhp. Torque has also been increased from 530Nm to 540Nm. This is sent to all four wheels using the quattro technology and a 7-speed S Tronic gearbox.
The R8 Plus accelerates from 0-100km/h in 3.5 seconds and can achieve a top whack of 317km/h. Thus it is 0.1 second quicker in the dash and 3km/h faster in its top speed than its regular V10 brother. This is Audi's quickest production car to be made.
Internationally, the R8 V10 Plus is about EUR 18,600 (INR 13.02 lakhs) more than the regular V10 Coupe. It remains to be seen how much of a premium Audi India would place on the V10 Plus over the existing INR 1.57 crore (pre-budget price, now estimated at INR 1.81 crore post 15% increase) for the V10 Coupe.
What we know for sure is that this would be Audi India's flagship offering once launched.
