To make its world debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show on September 29.
Audi is prepping to unveil the second generation Audi Q5 this month at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, which opens its doors to the press on the 29th. Here are 7 things we know about the 2017 Audi Q5.
1. New exterior Design and more space
The 2017 Audi Q5 will feature an evolutionary design that combines touches from the outgoing model and the bigger Audi Q7. It will feature a hexagonal Singleframe grille, Matrix LED headlights and new LED taillights with sequential turn signals. From spyshots, it may not appear to have grown in size, but expect the new Q5 to be slightly longer, taller and wider than the outgoing model.
2. MLB Evo (MLB II) platform promises higher fuel efficiency
As expected in the latest crop of Audis, the new Q5 will be based on the MLB Evo platform which underpins products like the new A4 and Q7. The extensive use of lightweight materials in the new platform will reduce kerb weight by around 100 kg over the outgoing model.
3. New Interior Design with lower buttons
Inside, the layout will borrow cues from the Q7 (pictured above) and A4, featuring a simpler design with new trim materials and upholstery options. Button count will be significantly reduced, and most functions can be operated via the MMI Touch controller.
4. Apple CarPlay and new infotainment system
The Audi Q5 is certain to feature Audi's new Virtual Cockpit driver's display as standard in top variants. It will also come equipped with freestanding MMI display on the dashboard, tri-zone climate control, Bang and Olufsen audio system, panoramic glass roof and power adjustable seats. One of the teasers has confirmed that the Q5 will offer Apple Carplay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity.
5. Engine lineup from the Audi A4
The next generation Audi Q5 will borrow the A4's range of TFSI petrol and TDI diesel engines. It would likely include the 2.0L four cylinder TFSI and TDI engines available in various states of tune and a range-topping 3.0L six cylinder diesel engine. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and 7-speed S-Tronic, while Audi's quattro AWD system will be equipped in top-end grades.
6. Market launch shortly after the Parisian show debut
Audi has confirmed that the new Q5 will make its world debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The wraps will come off at precisely 1:45pm CEST on September 29. It will go on sale Europe before the end of this year, and reach India next year.
7. Production in Mexico
The next generation Q5 will be the first Audi to go into production at the company's San Jose Chiapa plant in Mexico. The Volkswagen group brand confirmed that the Q5 will drive off the production line for the world market in late September.
