A more comfort-oriented 6-seat Ertiga for India has been rumoured for quite some time now. Now, a new report suggests that it will be based on the Ertiga Suzuki Sport sold in Indonesia. This means that while the Suzuki Ertiga Suzuki Sport is a seven-seater, the Maruti Ertiga Sport will be a six-seater.
The 6-seat Maruti Ertiga Sport will feature captain seats in the second-row that will make seating more comfortable and relaxing, especially for long hauls. The interior may be entirely in black, to reflect the sporty theme of the vehicle. Maruti Suzuki has been saving leather upholstery and cruise control probably for this derivative until now. Also, the sportier yet plusher variant may come with the new SmartPlay Studio infotainment system instead of the old SmartPlay infotainment system as well as auto-dimming IRVM.
On the outside, the Maruti Ertiga Sport should be more stylish with underbody spoilers all around, 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, unique chrome-studded radiator grille, honeycomb lower grille, rear upper spoiler and distinctive front bumper. Unlike the standard variant, this variant will likely have LED projector headlamps. Expect the Sport variant to come with only the BS-VI version of the K15B 1.5L petrol engine assisted by the Progressive Smart Hybrid mild-hybrid system. This naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine in the BS-IV version produces 77 kW (104.69 PS) 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic should be the transmission choices.
By the time Maruti Suzuki launches the Sport variant, it may have stopped manufacturing the standard variant with the D13A 1.3L diesel engine and/or the E15A 1.5L diesel engine. The company doesn't plan to upgrade them to make them BS-VI compliant.
