In May last year, Volkswagen confirmed a 5-seat version of the Atlas. Less than a year down the line, the company has announced that it will unveil a 5-seat VW Atlas concept at the 2018 New York International Auto Show.
Along with the announcement, Volkswagen has dropped the first teaser of the 5-seat Atlas concept. Compared to the full-size VW Atlas, the concept has a slightly different front end with a grille having a more dynamic design, sportier headlamps, and large air inlets. On the sides, the rising belt line and the more rakish coupe-like roofline make it look sportier. The latter gives the SUV a low-slung look, a typical feature of coupe SUVs.

Volkswagen will design and engineer the 5-seat Atlas for the American market. The company will invest approximately $340 million to bring the MQB platform-based new SUV to the market. Like the VW Passat (NMS) and 7-seat VW Atlas, the 5-seat version’s production will take place at the Volkswagen Chattanooga plant in the USA. The production version of the 5-seat Atlas concept will arrive between 2019 and 2021.
