While Ford India is celebrating the retail of the 300,000th Figo, another auto manufacturer in India was brought joy by the number 300,000 this afternoon.
Volkswagen India's Chakan plant in Pune today achieved the milestone of manufacturing 300,000 vehicles. The Pune plant, after construction finished in a record 17 months, began producing vehicles in May 2009. Currently the plant manufactures the Fabia and Rapid from the Skoda range, and the Polo and Vento from the VW range.
The jubilee example was a LHD VW Vento shipping to a customer in the Middle East. VW India today exports cars to over 30 markets in LHD and RHD configurations.
Commenting on the milestone, Mr. Andreas Lauenroth, Executive Director Technical, Volkswagen India Private Limited said -
It is a double celebration for Volkswagen India. We have achieved a new milestone with 3,00,000 cars being produced at our Pune facility. Also, the Vento is a left-hand drive car for export which highlights the acceptance of an Indian product worldwide.
Mr. Mahesh Kodumudi, President and Managing Director, Volkswagen India Private Limited said -
The Vento in itself is a milestone for Volkswagen in India. Though it was a car designed and built for India, it got wide acceptance in the international market as well and slowly grew to reach even the left-hand drive markets. Today, this car has achieved another milestone by being the 3,00,000thcar to roll out of Pune Plant.
