Despite the rapid decline in sales of C-segment sedans, Hyundai has not given up on the Elantra and has brought the new facelifted model of the same here in India. With an new swankier exterior design and a set of new features, the 2020 Elantra is definitely much more upmarket.
This time around, Hyundai has chosen to skip the 1.6-litre diesel engine due to poor demand. The 2.0-litre petrol engine (152 PS/192 Nm) is standard, and it's now BS-VI compliant. It is being offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter. The five paint schemes – Marina Blue, Polar White, Fiery Red, Typhoon Silver and Phantom Black - also have been carried over.
Here’s a detailed description of what all features the new Hyundai Elantra packs across the range that comprises three variants:-
S
In its entry-level, S variant, the Hyundai Elantra packs a number of features to justify its new premium price. The S variant comes loaded with goodies like halogen projector headlamps with daytime running lamps, body-coloured door handles and ORVMs with turn indicators, R16 alloy wheels, premium dual-tone black and beige interior, manual driver seat height adjustment, adjustable front and rear headrests, rear AC vent, manual AC, tilt steering, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto and a basic audio system with 4 speakers and 2 tweeters.
The set of standard safety features in the S variant too is quite generous, with front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, rear defogger, seat belt pre-tensioners with force limiters, ISOFIX mounts, speed alert warning, front seat belt reminders and disc brakes on all four wheels. Available only with the 6-speed manual gearbox, this S variant is priced at INR 15.89 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
SX
Priced at INR 18.49 lakh with a 6-speed MT and INR 19.49 lakh with a 6-speed AT (both prices ex-showroom Delhi), the SX variant of the new Hyundai Elantra is the one to go for over the base S variant, considering the more premium features to make you feel that it is really a C-segment sedan. It adds LED tail lamps, electric sunroof, chrome garnish on front grille, window beltline and door handles, door pocket lights, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, supervision cluster, dual-zone automatic climate control, cooled glovebox, telescopic steering, larger 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Telematics system, Infinity premium 8-speaker sound system with sub-woofer and amplifier, Hyundai’s Bluelink technology, hands free smart trunk, cruise control, keyless entry with push-button start and auto-folding ORVMs.
The list of safety features too extends a bit with welcoming additions of a reverse camera, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, hill start assist and telematics switches on the inside rearview mirror.
SX(O)
The range-topping, SX(O) grade is the best version of the all-new Hyundai Elantra, as it packs a lot of features which are new to this car as well. Above the features aforementioned in the SX variant, the SX(O) trim adds in bits like front parking sensors, LED quad projector headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, leather upholstery, deluxe door scuff plate, 10-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat with electric lumbar support, ventilated front seats, sliding front armrest, illuminated vanity mirror and wireless charger. Available only with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, SX(O) sets one back by INR 20.39 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
