Royal Enfield has launched a more affordable Classic series model, the Classic 350 S. The new, budget-friendly version of the Classic 350 comes with a drum brake at the back and a single-channel ABS. It retails at INR 1.45 lakh*, which is approximately INR 9,000 lower than the twin-disc/dual-channel ABS version that costs INR 1.54 lakh*.

Apart from the lower-spec braking setup, the new Royal Enfield Classic 350 S comes with cosmetic changes over the standard model that include a single-tone paint for the tank, different Royal Enfield logo and without the rubber pad. A similar silver shade is also available on the new Bullet 350. Components such as the engine, blinker mounts and the wheel-walls are painted black – a styling feature that we saw on the new Bullet 350 duo (350 and 350 ES). Chrome bits on the Classic 350 S include headlight mask, wire-spokes and the side stand.

Rest of the specifications are identical to the standard Classic 350. The bike uses telescopic forks at the front, gas-charged, 5-step preload-adjustable twin springs at the back and a BS-IV compliant 346 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled, twin-spark motor linked to a five-speed gearbox. The carburetted engine churns out 19.8 bhp of peak power at 5,250 rpm and 28 Nm of maximum torque at 4,000 rpm.

The budget version of the Classic 350 competes with the Jawa Classic and Forty-Two single-channel ABS variants. The lower-spec Jawa Classic retails at INR 1.64 lakh*, while the Forty-Two is available at INR 1.55 lakh*. Introducing the motorcycle ahead of the festive season will help the Chennai-based brand clock higher sales. Regular readers would know that it has delivered negative year-on-year sales performance for nine consecutive months.
