The new type-approval documents from the US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) have named two new 2020 Ducati motorcycles - the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour and the Scrambler Icon Dark. The new variants of the Multistrada and the Scrambler range should arrive with the rest of the 2020 line-up on 23 October.

Over and above all the features from the Multistrada 1260 S, the Ducati Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour should come with panniers, taller windscreen and heated grips as standard.

The Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour's name suggests that it will carry all the features from the Multistrada 1260 S. Thus, you would find the Ducati Skyhook Suspension Evo (DSS) electronic semi-active suspension and 5-inch TFT colour display with Ducati Multimedia System (DMS) among other features. Given the Grand Tour badge, we could see panniers, a taller windscreen and heated grips as standard fitment on the upcoming variant.

Other features that are available as standard on the Multistrada 1260 S include:

  • Vehicle Hold Control (VHC)
  • Riding Mode
  • Power Mode
  • Ducati Safety Pack (Cornering ABS Bosch + DTC)
  • Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC)
  • Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) up/down
  • Cruise control
  • Hands-Free
  • Backlit handlebar controls
  • Full LED light
  • Ducati Cornering Lights
  • Automatic indicator switch off
  • Anti-theft ready

The mechanical specifications for the Grand Tour variant include the same 1,262 cc L-Twin cylinder, liquid-cooled, Dual Spark engine with Ducati Testastretta DVT (Desmodromic Variable Timing) that also powers the current Multistrada 1260 range. The motor churns out 158 hp of peak power at 9,500 rpm and 129.5 Nm of max torque at 7,500 engine revs.

Ducati is also working on a Desmosedici Stradale V4 engine powered Multistrada variant, which was recently spotted during its pre-production test runs. The Multistrada V4 will share its 1,103 cc Desmosedici Stradale 90° V4, liquid-cooled motor with the Panigale V4. The new model is also likely to benefit from the company’s radar system that would work with an adaptive cruise control system.

The second motorcycle named in the US EPA documents is the Scrambler Icon Dark. It would most likely be visually differentiated from the Ducati Scrambler Icon in the form of a dark paint theme, most likely a matte finish. The mechanical specifications would be identical to the 2019 Scrambler Icon in that case. It would be powered by the 803 cc L-twin, air-cooled engine that churns out 73 bhp of peak power at 8,250 rpm and 67 Nm of maximum torque at 5,750 rpm.

The Ducati Scrambler Icon Dark will be based on the standard Ducati Scrambler Icon (extreme-right) motorcycle. The Ducati Icon Dark will most likely be just a visual upgrade over the standard Ducati Scrambler Icon.
