Citroen plans to launch four models in India by 2023, with the first being the C5 Aircross in 2020. The French carmaker will also expand its range in India with a compact SUV in 2021. A new report from Autocar India says that the company will launch a Hyundai Creta rival in 2022 as its third product for the Indian market.
The upcoming Hyundai Creta rival by Citroen will be loosely inspired from the international C4 Cactus. But on the flip side, it will be a made-for-India product, which means that it will be specifically built for our market. Also, a high level of localisation would mean competitive pricing. In terms of exterior styling, expect it to be as quirky as other Citroens available in the market today.
Under the hood, it is said to be powered by the same engine which will do duties on the Citroen’s compact SUV. The engine line-up is most likely to comprise a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol unit (131 PS/230 Nm) and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel unit (131 PS/300 Nm). At this point of time, even the possibility of a mild-hybrid powertrain can't be ruled out (essential to meet 2023 RDE or real-world driving emission tests). Transmission options may include 6-speed manual and 8-speed automatic.

The Hyundai Creta will be in its second generation when its rival from Citroen arrives. That said, the competition will include the Kia Seltos and Tata premium B-SUV (codename: Blackbird) as well.
