It's noteworthy that the motorcycle was launched in India on March 15 and the 5,203 units have been sold in merely half a month. Meanwhile, the MT-15’s fully-faired version, the YZF-R15 V3.0, has clocked 9,503 unit sales last month. The Yamaha MT-15 was launched in India at an ex-showroom price of INR 1.36 lakh*. In comparison, the YZF-R15 V3.0 retails for INR 1.39 lakh*. The MT-15 competes against the KTM 125 Duke, TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and the Bajaj Pulsar NS200 in the Indian market.

The motorcycle draws power from the same engine that propels the YZF-R15 V3.0. The 155cc liquid-cooled 4-valve SOHC fuel-injected motor delivers 19.1 bhp of power at 10,000 rpm and 14.7 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm. The engine comes mated to a six-speed gearbox that works in tandem with a slipper clutch. The India-spec MT-15 misses out on USD front forks. It features a box-type swingarm with a linkage-type rear mono-shock and different alloy wheel design.

That said, not all the premium hardware has been eliminated from the MT-15 in India. The styling cues have been retained from the international model, and the India-spec MT-15 continues to feature the famed Deltabox frame, muscular fuel tank with radiator guards, MT-09 inspired tail section and bug-eye shaped LED projector headlight. The colour options are limited, and the MT-15 is available in two colour options – Metallic Black and Dark Matt Blue. Anchoring tasks are performed by disc brakes on both ends. The safety net, however, includes a single-channel ABS. The YZF-R15 V3.0, on the other hand, gets a dual-channel ABS. The motorcycle can be further customised with six optional official accessories.
