The recently introduced XUV300 was the last all-new product launch from Mahindra for 2019. In 2020, the company will launch the next-gen Scorpio (codename - Z101), which, as per Autocar India, will feature a new BS-VI 2.0-litre oil-burner.
Mahindra's new BSVI-compliant 2.0-litre diesel engine will be available in three states of tune. Of these three versions, the mid-spec version will produce a maximum power of 160 hp and propel the next-gen Mahindra Scorpio. As per the new report, the powerplant will weigh 80 kg lesser than the 2.2-litre mHawk motor of the current-gen model. It will even offer a higher torque output. Transmission options for the next generation model are likely to include a 6-speed manual and an automatic unit, too. A four-wheel-drive option could also be on the cards.
Citing internal sources, the report says that the next-gen Mahindra Scorpio will become the second product after the Mahindra Marazzo to be conceptualised at the Mahindra North American Technical Centre (MNATC). The new model will be developed at the Mahindra Research Valley, in Chennai. Other than replacing the current version in the company's local lineup, the new model will even cater to several international markets. Hence, one can safely expect a high build quality, advanced telematics options, and a comprehensive safety suite.

The next generation Mahindra Scorpio will ride on an updated version of the current platform. Dr Pawan Goenka, managing director of Mahindra & Mahindra, has already hinted that the rugged design traits of the current model will be carried over to its successor. That said, the new model will boast modern aesthetics that should have a global appeal.
