Gaadiwaadi reports that the production of the 2019 Maruti Wagon R has commenced at the company's manufacturing facility in Haryana. The new model will reportedly launch towards the end of the current calendar year, though an earlier report said the launch was in early 2019.
The HEARTECT platform won't underpin the 2019 Maruti Wagon R. Instead, the company will use an updated version of the current architecture, which will ensure that the new model doesn't become an expensive proposition for the target audience. The updated platform will enable the tallboy to meet the more stringent safety norms.
The 2019 Maruti Wagon R won't look much like the JDM-spec model. While it will use an evolutionary design, it won't look anywhere as radical as the Japanese version. Powering the new model will be a BSVI-compliant version of the K10B 1.0-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine. Currently, this engine outputs a maximum power of 67 bhp at 6,200 rpm and a peak torque of 90 Nm at 3,500 rpm. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed 'AGS' Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).
The interior of the 2019 Maruti Wagon R is likely to feature steering-mounted audio controls and a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity features. The safety net for the new model will comprise driver airbag, driver and co-driver seatbelt reminder (SBR), speed alert system, speed-sensing door lock, impact-sensing door unlock, and reverse parking sensors right from the LXi trim.
