The Nissan Kicks recently made big news with its first-in-class Around View Monitor feature. In the C-SUV segment, the MG SUV arriving in Q2 2019 will feature a 360° camera system first, as per a report from carwale.
A 360-degree camera system works with four networked short-range cameras, one in the grille, one in the housing of the wing mirrors and one in the tailgate. The driver can select from the most suitable view from the multiple selectable views during various parking and manoeuvring moves. The feed from the different cameras is sent to the display of the vehicle’s infotainment system.
The MG SUV is an Indianised version of the Baojun 530, SAIC-GM-Wuling’s third SUV that debuted in China in November 2017. Among several more possible changes, spy shots reveal that our market will get the Chinese SUV with MG’s signature ‘star-rider’ grille, a different centre console design and black-brown two-tone interior colour scheme.
Engine options in the MG SUV will include a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol unit and a 2.0-litre diesel unit. The latter is FCA’s MultiJet II engine that powers the Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier. Even though 1 April 2020 is the deadline to meet BSVI emission norms, these engines will comply at the launch, well in advance.

MG will manufacture its C-SUV at GM’s Halol plant (Gujarat) which it acquired in September 2017. It will announce the name of its first model in the country in early 2019.
