As per Gaadiwaadi, production of the 2019 Maruti Wagon R will start around the middle of next month. Subsequently, the next generation of India's favourite tallboy (monthly sales average between June - November 2018 - 13,198 units) will launch in the first quarter of next year.
The 2019 Maruti Wagon R will look nothing like its JDM-spec counterpart. Instead, it will feature an evolutionary design shift that will make it fresher while retaining the essence of the outgoing generation. Moreover, the Indian-spec model won't be underpinned by the HEARTECT lightweight platform. Instead, the company will use a strengthened version of the current chassis to keep the cost in check while still meeting future safety regulations.
The 2019 Maruti Wagon R should offer a revised equipment list comprising steering-mounted audio controls and the Smartplay touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The safety features across trims will include a driver airbag, driver and co-driver seatbelt reminder (SBR), speed alert system, speed-sensing door lock, impact-sensing door unlock, and reverse parking sensors.
The 2019 Maruti Wagon R will be powered by a BSVI-compliant version of the K10B 1.0-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine. In its present state, the motor offers a maximum power of 67 bhp at 6,200 rpm and a peak torque of 90 Nm at 3,500 rpm. The current transmission options, which include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed 'AGS' Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), should be carried over.
