Jawa has made a comeback in the Indian two-wheeler market, and how? The modern-retro, christened 'Jawa' has been priced at INR 1.64 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), while bookings are underway on the company’s official website at INR 5,000. Here’s all you need to know about the Jawa classic roadster.
Design
The all-new Jawa is every bit a modern reincarnation of the vintage retro bike from the yesteryears. The large headlight dome, extended mudguards and the dual-tone round fuel tank with chrome treatment, are quintessentially the signature Jawa design highlights. The motorcycle is available in three colour options – Maroon, Grey and Black.
Platform
The Jawa roadster is suspended by a double-cradle chassis, which also forms the basis for the Jawa Forty-Two and the Perak bobber. The frame uses the engine as a stressed member. The chassis is suspended by an 18-inch front and a 17-inch rear wire-spoke wheel setup that pair with MRF Nylogrip Zapper tube-type tyres.
Engine
The all-new Jawa sources power from a 293cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, which is derived from the Mahindra Mojo’s motor. The DOHC, fuel-injected BS-VI compliant powertrain is tuned to develop 27 bhp of power while generating 28 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6-speed transmission.
Features
The Jawa comes equipped with features like an analogue instrument cluster, dual-tone paint scheme with chrome detailing and single-channel ABS. Braking power comes from a front disc and a rear drum brake setup. The telescopic forks and the twin rear shock absorbers are shared with the Jawa Forty-Two.
Availability
The Jawa classic is launched at a price of INR 1.64 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), while online bookings are open at INR 5,000. Classic Legends has announced that the bike will be delivered to customers from January 2019 onwards.

Competition
The Jawa rivals the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and the Thunderbird 350. While the Classic 350 is the undisputed king in the segment, the Jawa, with its authentic retro design appeal, has the goods for the leader to consider it a threat.
