The Tata Harrier will be underpinned by the new OMEGA platform, which is a derivative of the JLR's D8 architecture.

As per an earlier report, Tata Motors has refrained from using the FCA-made 9-speed automatic transmission in the interest of competitive pricing. The rumoured Hyundai-sourced 6-speed AT could be the same unit that is available on the Hyundai Creta. In the basic configurations, though, expect a 6-speed manual transmission instead. Powering the Tata Harrier will be an FCA-sourced 2.0-litre Multijet II turbocharged diesel engine called 'Kryotec' at Tata Motors.

The same engine and transmission combinations are expected to be carried over the Tata H7X, which is essentially the 7-seat version of the Harrier. That said, while the smaller of the two SUVs will feature a 140 hp version of the 2.0-litre diesel engine, the bigger model will sport a more powerful iteration with 170 hp on tap.

The Tata Harrier will be the first production model to be designed as per the company's Impact Design 2.0 philosophy. As per Pratap Bose, Head of Design, Tata Motors, 80-85% of the new model's design will stay true to the H5X concept.

The highlight of the front-end will be a split headlamp setup that will comprise a sleek pair of LED DRLs, a headlamp cluster that would include a projector setup for main beam and an ellipsoidal lens for high beam, and a set of fog lights. On the sides, the SUV will flaunt stylish 19-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels instead of the 22-inch rims on the H5X concept. The rear will be characterised by sleek tail lamps and a sporty bumper.
