Ahead of its EICMA 2018 debut, the KTM 790 Adventure R was seen showing off its off-roading prowess in a video uploaded on KTM Sportmotorcycle GmbH’s YouTube channel. The motorcycle is a prototype that had participated in the European Adventure Rally in Sardinia. The production-spec model will be unveiled on November 6, 2018.

The upcoming adventure tourer can be seen going sideways on dusty roads, climbing steep inclines and tackling large rocks. How good is the motorcycle? Off-roading expert and KTM Ambassador, Chris Birch said:
It is such a good bike. The chassis, you can go so hard off-road and it allows you to push you limits personally rather than the bike’s limits.
KTM says that the 790 Adventure R was developed based on the customers’ feedback. The Austrian brand said in the YouTube description that their customer wanted a motorcycle that can be ridden hard and that allows to push their limits personally around the bike’s limit. The motorcycle in the video is the same prototype that was showcased to a select group of 150 KTM Adventure owners back in June 2018.
The 790 Adventure R is developed in tandem with the company’s Dakar-winning KTM 450 RALLY motorcycle. The middleweight adventure-tourer uses KTM’s new LC8c 799cc, parallel-twin cylinder, liquid cooled engine that is also seen on the 790 Duke, although it is likely to receive a slightly different state of tune on the 790 Adventure R. The engine on the naked roadster is tuned to deliver 105 PS of maximum power at 9,000 rpm and 86 Nm of peak torque at 8,000 rpm.
Comprehensive rider aid package on the 790 Adventure R include cornering ABS, multi-level traction control system, ride-by-wire throttle, and selectable riding modes. The bike will also feature long-travel, adjustable WP forks up front and a WP PDS mono-shock at the rear.

The ergonomics on the 790 Adventure are adjustable, and the foot pegs and handlebar can be fine-tuned to the rider’s requirement. Radial mounted, 4-piston callipers at the front and 2-piston callipers at the rear provide the stopping power. Being an off-road spec motorcycle, the KTM 790 Adventure R uses wire spoke wheels that are wrapped in dual-purpose knobby tires. The large front wheel is aimed to provide better off-road prowess to the motorcycle.
