The Royal Enfield 650 twins will rival the likes of Kawasaki Vulcan S, Harley Davidson Street 750 and Harley Davidson Street Rod.

Royal Enfield CEO Siddhartha Lal has confirmed that bookings for the 650 twins will commence in Q3 FY2018 (October-December). The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 and the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 had their world debut at EICMA 2017, and they made their Indian premiere at the Royal Enfield Rider Mania 2018. While both the motorcycles are different in character, they share the frame, engine, wheels, electricals and other mechanical bits.

While the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is a neo-classic roadster, the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is a quintessential neo-modern café racer. The Interceptor 650 features a circular fuel tank, raised handlebar and an elongated single-piece seat. The GT 650 on the other hand, has clip-on handlebars, a tear-drop fuel tank, and a single café racer-style saddle. Both models have the same round headlamp, mirrors and twin-pod instrument console.

The Royal Enfield 650 twins source power from an all-new 648 cc oil-cooled parallel- twin cylinder engine. The fuel-injected twin motor is tuned to produce a maximum power of 47 bhp at 7,100 rpm and generating a peak torque of 52 Nm at 5,250 rpm. The engine is mated to the company’s first 6-speed gearbox, while a slip and assist clutch is standard. The 650 cc engine has modest output figures, but it allows the company to cater to the A2 license holders in Europe.

The Royal Enfield 650 twins come equipped with 41 mm telescopic front forks and twin coil-over gas-charged shock absorbers at the back. The motorcycles run on 18-inch wire-spoke wheels wrapped in Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tube-type tyres with 100-section front and 130-section rear aspect ratios. Braking power is provided by a 320 mm front rotor and a 240 mm rear disc, and dual-channel ABS is standard.
