Seen here are the most revealing images of the 2019 Mercedes GLE, which is expected to be revealed anytime now with a public premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. Snapped by Instagram user 'frankfurtcarspotter', this 2019 GLE test mule is reported to have arrived back in Germany after concluding hot weather testing in the Middle East.
The 2019 Mercedes GLE in these images appears to wear an AMG body kit with aggressively styled bumpers, large alloy wheels and twin exhausts. Speaking of the AMG, Mercedes plans to have an AMG GLE 63 and GLE 63 S, both powered by 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engines in 571 PS and 612 PS tunes respectively. A more accessible GLE 53 with a 3.0-liter inline six cylinder is also anticipated.
Codenamed W167, the 2019 Mercedes GLE rides on the MHA rear wheel drive platform. Regular variants will use four and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Reports state that the six-cylinder engines will get a 48-volt mild hybrid system whereas a plug-in hybrid variant is on the cards as well.
Inside, the 2019 Mercedes GLE gets an interior which bears resemblance to modern Mercedes products. Twin 10.25-inch display units for the instrument cluster and MBUX (Mercedes Benz User Experience) infotainment system, a three-spoke steering wheel, leather finished grab handles on the centre tunnel, and powered seat adjustments for rear seat passengers are some of the features noticed on the new SUV.
