Nearly two years after the fifth-gen CR-V debuted internationally, it’s all set to arrive in India. Honda Cars India will launch the best selling SUV on 9 October.
The fifth generation Honda CR-V is the first to be available optionally as a seven-seater, and India will get it with the extra row of seats. Customers will have two engine options, including diesel for the first time.
The latest CR-V’s engine options will include a 2.0-litre i-VTEC petrol unit and a 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel unit. The naturally aspirated petrol mill produces 154 PS and 189 Nm of torque. It will come paired with a CVT.
The 1.6-litre diesel engine, manufactured in India, is available in single-turbo and twin-turbo guises internationally, but Honda will offer only the former here, as the extra turbo would have shot up the prices by up to INR 1.5 lakh. The single-turbo version delivers 120 PS and 300 Nm of torque. It will send power to the wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission.
Honda has decided to do away with a manual transmission because of the weak demand. The company will offer paddle shifters as standard and an AWD system as an option, but only in the diesel engine model.
Key features of the 2018 Honda CR-V should include all-LED lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, foot-activated tailgate, power panoramic sunroof, 7-inch digital instrument cluster, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, power front seats and electric parking brake.
