According to a report on MoneyControl, M&M will launch the S201 (codename) sub-4 meter SUV before Diwali instead of the earlier reported January 2019 timeframe. There's no confirmation, but it appears that Mahindra could have prioritised the S201 over the G4 Mahindra Rexton, which was reported to launch around Diwali. As per the new report, the next-generation Rexton (codename Y400) will launch by March 2019 instead.
Managing Director of Mahindra & Mahindra Pawan Goenka told analysts that after these products (Mahindra Marazzo, Mahindra S201 and Mahindra Rexton Y400), the company would not introduce any all-new vehicles for the calendar year 2019. He, however, stated that Mahindra would have new platform launches from 2020 which could be all-new models or successors for existing vehicles. M&M spokesmen have acknowledged that all-new Scorpio, XUV500 and Thar are in the pipeline.
The S201, derived from the Ssangyong Tivoli, will rival the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport. It will be powered by a 1.5-liter diesel engine which will make its debut on the Marazzo. This unit will reportedly develop 121 hp and will be paired to a new 6-speed manual gearbox. The petrol engine on the S201 is reported to be a 1.2-liter turbocharged unit with 140 hp on tap. These mills are first of the Mahindra-Ssangyong co-developed powertrains.

The Mahindra S201 should have a starting price in the region of INR 6.15-6.45 lakhs, ex-Showroom for the petrol variant. Expect Mahindra to offer safety features like dual airbags, ABS and ISOFIX mounting points on all variants, and a touchscreen entertainment system, cruise control, alloy wheels and automatic climate control on the top-end trims.
