The all-new BMW 8 Series Coupe will reach U.S. showrooms as an MY2019 model on December 9, 2018. IAB reader Nischal Chandra spotted the luxury coupe undergoing testing in New Jersey today.
The 2019 BMW 8 Series Coupe is set to go on sale globally in two models this year: M850i xDrive and 840d xDrive. The U.S. market will get only the M850i xDrive initially, with the latest generation of the 4.4-litre BMW TwinPower Turbo V8 engine. This engine delivers 523 hp at 5,500-6,000 rpm and 553 pound-feet (750 Nm) of torque at 1,800-4,600 rpm.
The twin-turbo engine is married to the 8HP76 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. The xDrive AWD system and a rear differential lock are fitted as standard on the BMW M850i xDrive Coupe. A 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) sprint takes just 3.6 seconds, while the top speed, typically, is limited to 155 mph (250 km/h). Adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers and Integral Active Steering (four-wheel steering) are standard on the all-new 8 Series Coupe.
The 2019 BMW 8 Series Coupe makes its presence felt with features like full-LED headlights with BMW LaserLight technology - the slimmest on a BMW model to date, 20-inch cast aluminium wheels in the exclusive colour Frozen Cerium Grey metallic with a high-gloss polished finish on the face, “double-bubble” roof contouring, long and L-shaped all-LED tail lights.
The all-new BMW 8 Series Coupe has a driver-focused interior design in which the wide centre console rises towards the instrument panel. BMW Head-Up Display, BMW Live Cockpit Professional that combines a 12.3-inch virtual instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch Control Display, Merino Individual Leather upholstery, climate seats (front), M leather steering wheel, M pedals, M driver’s footrest, anthracite BMW Individual headliner and Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System are its equipment highlights.
