Indian Autos Blog understands that series production of the 2018 Maruti Ciaz (facelift) is underway at its Manesar plant in Haryana. The start of production is in line with reports which claim a market launch towards the second half of August 2018.

Unofficial bookings for the 2018 Maruti Ciaz are underway at select NEXA outlets.

When launched, the 2018 Ciaz will distinguish itself visually through its redesigned LED headlights, a new grille, LED daytime running lights, minor tweaks to the bumpers and LED brake lights. Inside, a new, lighter shade of faux-wood elements and a new instrument cluster with a new multi-info display (similar to what is observed on the Baleno) is expected on the mid-size sedan.

The highlight of the 2018 Ciaz will be the introduction of the all-new 1.5-liter K15B VVT four-cylinder petrol engine. This engine will also be seen on the 2018 Maruti Ertiga (which is due for a launch this festive season), and future premium Maruti models. It packs 104.7 PS and 138 Nm of torque (on the Indonesian-spec Ertiga) and will be BS6 ready.

Like before, Maruti will offer a manual and automatic gearbox on the petrol Ciaz, though interestingly the SHVS mild-hybrid technology (which until now has been reserved for diesel Maruti models) will also be seen on the Ciaz petrol for improved fuel efficiency.

Reports also state that at the launch, the 2018 Maruti Ciaz will be available with a petrol option only, and the diesel variant will be launched in the months to come. This may be to leverage the growing buyer preference for petrol over diesel and reduce waiting periods for buyers who want their new car before the festive season.

When launched, the Ciaz diesel will carry over the 1.3-liter DDiS four-cylinder from the current model. It delivers 90 PS and 200 Nm of torque and is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Unofficial bookings for the 2018 Ciaz have commenced at select NEXA dealers for INR 21,000.
