BMW Group India has sent us a ‘Block Your Date’ invite for a press conference on 18 July, without revealing the event. We strongly believe that the company will launch the BMW G 310 R and the BMW G 310 GS on the said date in India. BMW Motorrad officially started bookings for the bikes from 8 June 2018, at an amount of INR 50,000.
The BMW G 310 R made its global premiere in 2015, while the bike was subsequently showcased in India at the Auto Expo 2016. The company then unveiled the adventure version, the BMW G 310 GS in 2016, which made its Indian debut at the 2018 Auto Expo. The G 310 R is speculated to be priced at INR 3.5 lakh, while the G 310 GS is likely to be priced at INR 4 lakh (both on-road prices). However, we will be mighty impressed if BMW prices both the bikes competitively as compared to the KTM 390 Duke.
BMW Motorrad India hasn’t revealed the delivery timeframe for both the bikes; however, speculations are rife that deliveries will start by the end of July or early August. The BMW G 310 twins are developed by BMW in Germany, while the bikes are manufactured in India by TVS Motor Company in Hosur, under the BMW-TVS joint partnership, until now only for exports.
The BMW G 310 twins are powered by a 313 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, engine that gets a reverse-cylinder design. This engine produces 34 bhp of maximum power and 28 Nm of peak torque, while the engine is paired to a 6-speed gearbox. The TVS Apache RR 310 is a beneficiary of this engine. That said, the G 310 twins will run a custom ECU from BMW Motorrad as compared to the TVS counterpart.

A tubular steel trellis frame underpins both the bikes, and they come shod with USD front forks and a rear mono-shock. Braking responsibilities are anchored by disc brakes at both ends along with standard ABS. Owning to the reverse-cylinder design of the engine, both bikes get an extended swingarm and a shorter wheelbase. The baby BMWs come equipped with 5-spoke alloy wheels, while they tip the weighing scales at 158.5kg (G 310 R) and 169.5kg (G 310 GS).
