The Interceptor's relaxed ergonomics and classic design make it a cheaper alternative to the Triumph Bonneville range.

Royal Enfield will first launch the 650 twins in the UK next month and then in other markets. The brand has started displaying the bikes in dealerships in Australia. Though Royal Enfield has not given a specific release date, expect the brand to launch it once it is ready for the demand in the local market.

The Royal Enfield 650 Twins are made in Chennai. The media site also reports that the price is unlikely to exceed INR 3.5 lakhs (ex-showroom); and will undercut competition (Harley-Davidson Street 750 & Kawasaki Vulcan S) by a considerable margin. Royal Enfield says the price difference between the 650 Twins and its 350 cc portfolio will be similar to the price gap between 150 cc bikes and its 350 cc motorcycles. The Kawasaki Vulcan S costs INR 5.44 lakhs, while the Street 750 will set you back by INR 5.17 lakhs, both ex-showroom, Delhi.

When launched, the Royal Enfield 650 Twins will be the most affordable twin-cylinder premium motorcycles in the country. The two bikes use an all-new 648cc SOHC 4-valve parallel twin unit with FI and oil cooling. The engine comes with a 270 degree crank with a balancer shaft to smoothen out vibrations. The powerplant makes 47 PS at 7,100 rpm and 52 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The engine works in tandem with a new 6-speed transmission with slip-assist clutch. Dual-channel ABS is standard as well.
