The production Tata H5X has appeared in yet another set of spy shots, courtesy Motor Octane. The H5X is Tata Motors’ new flagship SUV that will fall in the same segment as the Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson.
The Tata H5X will arrive in the market as the first production model incorporating the Tata Impact 2.0 design language. It will look very close to the Tata H5X concept that debuted at Auto Expo 2018 last month. 80-85% of the concept’s design is on its way into production, Pratap Bose, Head of Design, Tata Motors, has said. The concept version measures 4,575 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width and 1,686 mm high. It has a 2,740 mm wheelbase.
The Tata H5X will ride on the D8 platform borrowed from Jaguar Land Rover, which means that it will measure no less than 4.3 metres in length. The proven D8 platform currently underpins a number of Jaguar Land Rover SUVs, including the Jaguar E-Pace that debuted last year. Tata Motors is expected to offer the H5X with FCA’s 140 hp 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine. A 9-speed automatic transmission and a 4x4 system are expected in the range-topping configuration.

The H5X is expected to reach showrooms in early 2019 with prices starting at around INR 13 lakh. It will have a 7-seat version arriving later, likely to be powered by the 170 hp 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine.
