After the fourth-gen Mercedes A-Class, the next expected compact car from Mercedes-Benz is the Mercedes A-Class Sedan (codename: Mercedes V177). The BMW 1 Series rivaling sedan was recently spied in China, courtesy autohome.com.cn.
The Mercedes A-Class Sedan is the production version of the Mercedes Concept A Sedan that introduced a new design language for the brand’s next-gen compact vehicles. The proportions and design of the production version look very close to that of the concept. The Mercedes A-Class Sedan has traditional sedan proportions and will likely slot below the coupe-styled Mercedes CLA. Think of this duo as a C-segment equivalent of the Mercedes E-Class and Mercedes CLS that fall in the E-segment. The sedan version’s interior looks the same as that of the hatchback version, featuring a dual-display setup and turbine-shaped air vents.
Underpinned by the MFA2 platform, the Mercedes A-Class Sedan could sell with the same trio of engines as the fourth-gen 2018 Mercedes A-Class. Mercedes-Benz has announced the new hatchback with the M 282 1.4-litre petrol engine (163 hp/250 Nm), the M 260 2.0-litre petrol engine (224 hp/350 Nm) and the OM 608 1.5-litre diesel engine (116 hp/260 Nm). Transmission choices for the A-Class Sedan may include 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. Availability of the 4MATIC permanent AWD system is also likely.
Noteworthy features of the Mercedes A-Class Sedan should include Multibeam LED headlamps, 19-inch wheels, LED tail lamps, panoramic sunroof, full-colour head-up display, 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch central display, MBUX infotainment system, “Hey Mercedes” activation phrase for the Linguatronic voice control system, ambient lighting with 64 colours and ten colour worlds, 360° camera and semi-autonomous driving.

The Mercedes A-Class Sedan will debut later this year. It will have a long-wheelbase version too, most likely a China-only deal. This stretched version too will arrive this year.
