The 2018 VW Touareg was previewed by the VW T-Prime Concept GTE at Auto China 2016 and stays very close to it in terms of design. The third generation model features sportier styling, particularly at the front. Inside, it may have the influence of the VW Arteon and feature elements like 12.3-inch Active Info Display, glass-covered 9.2-inch Discovery Pro touchscreen infotainment system with gesture control, multi-colour ambient lighting, Nappa leather upholstery and more.

Volkswagen is likely to offer the MLB-Evo platform-based next-gen VW Touareg with a variety of 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol and 2.0-litre TDI turbocharged diesel engines. The company may offer a plug-in hybrid powertrain similar to one the VW T-Prime Concept GTE was equipped with as well. The concept SUV’s powertrain (381 PS/700 Nm) comprises a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine (252 PS/370 Nm) and an electric motor (136 PS/350 Nm).

A recent report said that the 2018 VW Touareg will have its world premiere at Auto China 2018 in April next year. However, now it seems like the unveiling may take place much earlier. Production is already underway at the Bratislava plant in Slovakia.
