The 2018 Maruti Swift is slated to arrive early next year. It will be showcased to the Indian public for the first time at the 2018 Auto Expo that starts February 7 onwards. The report states that while India will get almost certainly get a hybrid variant of the Swift, the exact specs are not known yet.
Launched in Japan in July earlier this year, the Suzuki Swift Hybrid features a 91 PS 1.2 L 4-cyl petrol engine paired with a 10 kW Motor Generator unit and a 5-speed AGS (AMT) gearbox. Under low load conditions, the system can shut off the engine and can run in full electric mode albeit for a very limited distance. The 2018 Maruti Swift hybrid was spotted in India back in September.
A mild hybrid variant of the JDM-spec Suzuki Swift is also available. The 1.2 L K12C petrol engine powering that variant features Suzuki's mild hybrid technology. It is offered with a CVT. Mild hybrid or SHVS is not new to the Indian market. Diesel variants of the Ciaz and Ertiga benefit from the tech. The updated S-Cross gets it too.
