Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India has stopped the production of the Honda CBR 150R and the Honda CBR 250R, says a report from Moneycontrol.

The CBR 150R entered the Indian market in 2011 and received only visual updates in the following years.

The bikes were not updated to BS4 emission compliance and thus weren’t allowed to sell in the country post April 1, as per Supreme Court’s order. The report states that Honda did not make even one unit of the two models since April 1, 2017; and that most of the remaining stocks were sold off during the flash sale on March 30 & 31st, with discounts ranging from INR 25-30,000. The company had taken off the bikes from its website in April.

Honda has revealed that the bikes could be back into the market, but hasn’t revealed the launch dates. As per the media website’s sources, the upcoming bikes will not only be BS4 compliant, but will also come with new features to compete with its modern rivals. The spokesperson said:

Moving forward, there is a plan to come back in this segment. However, it is too early to disclose details of the same.

Honda launched the Honda CBR 150R in March 2012, and the Honda CBR 250R in April 2011. The two bikes became popular for their refinement and build quality. The bikes received their last update at the Honda RevFest in 2015, which was the launch platform for the Honda CBR 650F as well.

The updates were only visual and the sales dwindled with the advent of more affordable, better equipped motorcycles like the KTM 200 Duke; TVS Apache RTR 200; KTM RC 200; Bajaj Pulsar NS200 and RS200. As per the report, Honda sold only 214 units of the CBR 250R; and 455 units of the CBR 150R, a month on an average in the previous financial year. Currently, Honda’s flagship in the sub-quarter-litre segment in the country is the Honda CB Hornet 160R.
