Will roll out from Suzuki's new plant in Gujarat.

Production of the 2018 Maruti Swift (3rd gen) will commence later this year at Suzuki's Mehsana plant, reports ET Auto. Lumax' CEO has told the publication that it will supply headlamps for the Swift from its new facility in Sanand, Gujarat, from November. Suzuki's new plant in Gujarat currently produces the Maruti Baleno and the new Maruti Swift Dzire (3rd gen).

The next-gen Swift will rollout from Suzuki's new plant in Gujarat, which currently produces the Maruti Baleno and the new Maruti Swift Dzire.

Reports suggest that a launch will take place at the 2018 Auto Expo, which is scheduled for Feb 9, 2018. That is quite the gap, given that its sedan counterpart, the 2017 Maruti Swift Dzire, is launching next month.

The next-gen Swift is already on sale in Japan and Italy, and we had a close look at the model at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. It measures 3,840 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width and 1,500 mm/1,525 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,450 mm. Some of the new features include LED headlamps with LED DRLs, 16-inch dual tone alloy wheels, C-pillar integrated door handles, LED taillamps, and a hexagonal grille.

The cabin has been completely restyled, featuring a 7-inch touchscreen system with Apple CarPlay, round dials with displays for the climate control system, new twin pod instrument cluster with colour MID, and a sportier flat bottom steering wheel.

The cabin of the Indian-spec 2018 Maruti Swift will be significantly better but will lack the sophistication of the Euro-spec (pictured).

For the Indian market, the new Swift is likely to continue with the current range of engine options, which include the 1.2-litre VVT four-cylinder petrol engine and the 1.3-litre DDiS four-cylinder diesel engine. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual, while the 5-speed AGS (AMT) could be in the cards.
