2017 KTM Duke 390 to be 4-5 kg heavier, more details inside - Report

Will go on sale in India in early-2017.

The KTM Duke 390 is set to enter its second generation this year, with the redesigned model expected to debut at EICMA 2016 in Milan in November. A report from Autocar India has revealed some fresh details about the 2017 KTM Duke 390.

The 2017 KTM Duke 390's final design is nearly ready, the report suggests. The new generation model looks like a smaller version of the KTM 1290 Super Duke R, and to further extend its relation with the bigger model, KTM will offer one or more colour schemes identical to the ones offered on the latter. The redesigned model is said to be 4-5 kg heavier due to the regular exhaust canister that has been fitted in place of the underbelly unit for reducing emissions.

The 2017 KTM Duke is expected to be powered by an upgraded version of the current model‘s 373.27 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which currently develops 32 kW (44 hp) and 35 Nm of torque. The report says that there will be no real change in the power and torque figures. However, thanks to incorporation of ride-by-wire technology, the all-new model could offer better power delivery.

Thanks to new emission norms, the exhaust will be a regular canister instead of the under-belly unit, which will reportedly increase weight by 4-5 kg.

The next-gen KTM Duke 390's front-end will have Separate Function Forks (only one leg handles the damping, the other one handles rebound). The new suspension setup has helped improving the ride quality so much that the change can be noticed instantly on riding the motorcycle, adds the report. The new instrument panel is a full colour TFT unit, and will have smartphone integration function, ability to show GPS data and change its colour as the rev count goes higher.
